We thought we’d share a piece from the Motor Trend Magazine Head 2 Head video series featuring the newest weapon of speed and handling from AMG’s arsenal, the 2013 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series. Jonny Lieberman and the guys at Motor Trend had some fun in Northern California filming this 16 minute video. It’s a showdown of two cars in the 600+ Horsepower club, the 2013 Dodge Viper SRT and the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series.
The first half of the video features the newly improved Dodge Viper SRT, with a price tag in the neighborhood of $115,000. It’s a lot of raw horsepower to maneuver around the back roads and seemed especially challenging for professional racer Randy Pobst hustling it around Laguna Seca / Mazda Raceway.
There is the token 1/4 mile run, 0-60 mph run as well as braking distance measurements. The cars each have their strong points.
The second half of the video is a run through of all the 2013 SLS AMG Black Series has to offer. Priced at almost $300,000, the SLS AMG Black Series is certainly in another price league. Despite the fact the SLS is heavier, has less torque and less horsepower, it is quicker 0-60, runs a faster 1/4 mile and Randy Pobst was able to lap the Laguna Seca track more quickly due to the higher level of refinement and overall smoother character of the Mercedes.
So sit back and take 15 minutes to watch the video, it’s very well done, turn up the volume, the sounds that both of these cars emit are glorious!
